A private Darwin to Nguiu (Bathurst Island) 100 seat passenger Sea Cat Ferry commenced a three times a week service on 13 September. Fare costs are half that of regular air services. The operator is managing his own considerable risks and initial indications suggest a positive investment with viability at 30% capacity and achieving up to 80% currently. The wet season may impact upon tourist numbers, however the owner is directing the service towards Tiwi clients and advises that this marketing strategy appears to be the correct one. |
